Library Art Contest: "Re-New A Book"

In honor of National Library Week (April 14 - 20, 2013), Las Positas College library will be hosting a book art contest!

Storybook gown constructed entirely out of recycled children’s Golden Books. 

 Put your creativity to work in repurposing and designing original art from "retired" print resources (old books, magazines, paperbacks, newspapers, etc). [LPC library materials are not to be harmed in the making of your project.] 

Deadline for submissions:  Friday, April 12.


Contest Guidelines:

Entering the Contest:

  • Book art submitted to the contest must be an original creation made by the person submitting the piece. In other words, it must be made by you.
  • The contest is open to all LPC students, staff, faculty and administrators.
  • Original book art can be submitted to the LPC library circulation desk (front desk).
  • Contestants will provide contact information via the contest entry form provided by the library staff.
  • Individuals may submit more than one piece of original creation.
  • Items selected for submission and display are subject to library staff discretion.

Display, Voting, and Prizes: 

  • Book art submissions will be on display in the library.  
  • Voting begins Monday, 4/15 and runs through Friday, 4/19. 
  • Voting is open to all LPC campus members. 
  • Voting ballots will be available in the LPC library.  
  • Prizes will be awarded and winners will be announced Monday 4/22. 
  • Only one prize per winner. 
  • Art submissions and winners may be photographed for library display and promotion purposes. 
  • The LPC library is not responsible for lost or damaged items. 

Use of Materials:

  • Please do not destroy/deface/mis-use library property in the making of your art. 
  • The library will have a limited amount of withdrawn/"retired" library materials available for use on a first-come-first-serve basis--see library circulation desk. 
  • Other places materials may be found:  used book stores, garage sales, library sales, flea markets, thrift stores, your garage or attic. . .
