Here are some basic details that will help you get started.
What is WorldCat?
1. WorldCat is the new online catalog that will allow you to see what is available in the LPC Library collection and, as the name implies, it also includes the collections of libraries worldwide that may be of interest to researchers. To seek out materials on our campus, look for the holdings status that says "Las Positas College".

2. The library homepage has been updated to include links as well as a search box for WorldCat. You will need to update any links you have posted on your own website, Blackboard, assignments, or browsers. The new URL is: http://laspositascollege.worldcat.org

3. At this early stage of the implementation, not all electronic resources have been loaded into the online catalog yet. We are scheduled to load data for e-books and streaming videos shortly. In the meantime, please use the direct links from the LPC Library website (and listed below) to find e-resources including Films on Demand, American History in Video, Ebscohost eBook Collection, and Gale Virtual Reference Library.

My Library Account and WorldCat Account: What's the difference?
4. There are two types of accounts available in WorldCat.
4a. My Library Account: This allows you to see the items you have checked out and their due dates, as well as renew them online. Also, your W number and My Library Account password allows you to submit and track items you have requested from LPC or Chabot Libraries. Click here for instructions to set up your own custom password to access My Library Account.
4b. WorldCat: This allows you to manage your research by creating and saving lists of frequently used library materials or search terms. This requires a separate registration and login.
IMPORTANT DATABASE ACCESS INFO: My Library Account and WorldCat accounts do not affect your off-campus database access. You will use the same account information (your W Number and eight-digit password) to log into the library’s online article databases, ebooks,and streaming videos.
5. In the near future, we will be implementing the database search function in the online catalog. This new feature will allow users to do a single search to find relevant resources in multiple formats including books, ebooks, streaming videos, AND database articles from Academic Search Complete and MasterFILE Premier.
